Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh

The 4th ranked ODI team take on the 9th (and leader of the minnows) Thursday morning in what should be a one sided contest at the MCG. Melbourne is practically a home ground for the touring Lankans – a city which even produced the first SL born Australian player – and a ground where the infamous no ball polemic first became a cause celebre for the much loved Murali. It also hosted one of SL´s finest moments when the same Murali scored the winning runs of an epic battle since referred to as the “Melbourne miracle”.

I expect no such excitement in this match. Despite the lackadaisical performance against the tournament mascot Afghanistan which included 16 wide’s and a panicky 55 required from 52 balls; SL have had their scare and should see off inferior opposition in a hum drum and uneven contest.

I expect Perera to get a fifer and Jayawardene to score a century and predict a large win margin. Though the 2 greatest SL bowlers (Vaas and Murali) have long hung up their boots, the current batch of players should demolish an excitable and predictable Bangladesh. This will not be another Ireland match with surprises and twists.

Prediction: SL win. Large margin.
